dramatic contrast

obvious subject

I took some close up plant images with heavy contrast to be used for the phosphorescent glow. I plan to level a selection of these images and then project them onto the phosphorescent paint using my laptop screen. I will then take pictures of the resulting glow using a camera in a dark room.

I used the darkroom to set up my phosphorescent paint board, which I had used my laptop to project the plant images on it. I experimented with the aperture, shutter speed and ISO to find the settings that best responded to the glow of the image. I found that a shutter speed of 15-20 seconds, a small aperture and ISO at about 1000 had the best results.

phosforescent glow selections

As the project developed I found that I really enjoyed the concept of a hidden image that we naturally struggle to see. but with a camera and a low shutter speed, letting in as much light as needed, it creates bright and glowing images that you can't see any other way.
